This historical herb has as its active ingredient Antizaquinones glucosides . These molecules are adapted by normal bacteria in the intestine forming other molecules (the aglycones ), which exerts the restoring action of the intestine. The active ingredient has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects, making it effective for diseases such as diverticulitis, colitis and hemorrhoids, it also stimulates ulcer healing due to its properties as a cell proliferator. Its use is important for intestinal infections, whether by parasitosis , bacterial or viral.
